Abstract

Montclair State University was invited in August 2018 to participate in a New Jersey (USA) State initiative, ResearchwithNJ, to promote the research at our institution. ResearchwithNJ was launched with the aim to increase innovation exchange, establish greater collaboration between academia and industry, aid universities in managing their research enterprise, and help to market New Jersey as a center of innovation. Montclair State University joined the other five participating research universities in the initiative during the beginning of Phase II. An internal team was formed to bring the initiative to fruition as soon as possible to be on par with the institutions that were already members of the pilot program. Our team reflected diversity in skills and talents and encompassed many specialized areas across campus. By utilizing our various University team member’s expertise along with the project management and technical experts at Elsevier, ResearchwithNJ, as well as the University’s new Pure system, Research with Montclair, were both successfully launched in January 2019 reflecting a rapid turnaround time. As with any new system, and with the added pressure of being under a tight deadline, the proper team of advisors can overcome obstacles with collaboration, collegiality, communication and confidence in decision-making. This presentation focused on what worked, as well as lessons learned, as our team balanced their usual workloads and responsibilities with the added pressure of successfully launching both initiatives under a very tight deadline.
