Description

This paper will analyze the viewpoints of ancient Greek and Roman philosophers in the importance of medicine and healing one’s mind and body as a result of engaging in self-care. Medicine provides individuals the advantage to maintain and improve one’s overall well-being. Preliminary to Westernized medicine, traditional medicine has been established since the Paleolithic era, where herbalists crafted medicine from plant products. Traditional medicine, also referred as holistic medicine or complementary alternative medicine (CAM), comprises holistic practices like acupuncture, massage therapy, etc. which aid in repairing the mind and body that will reduce stress, decrease pain, and treat several illnesses and diseases. The conceptual approach of holistic medicine is through means of transitioning to a healthier diet, meditation, etc. These mentioned treatment methodologies have been brought up by many philosophers to secure a healthier life. To a certain degree, philosophers have claimed that the four universal elements: fire, water, Earth, and air coincide with humans and one’s mental health which reflects one’s instability. Thus, in recent years, this study, researchers have demonstrated the positive effects of medical school techniques derived from the Ancient Greco-Roman world and how it is applied to the desired medical attention towards the covid-19 crises. Furthermore, this paper will emphasize the significance of holistic medicine and the positive influences of traditional medicine in observing patients by diagnosing and treating in order to modify one’s health. Therefore, through an archeology perspective, one’s imbalances reveal the causal factors that develop detrimental effects to one’s physical history and lifestyle.
