Description

This study analyzes the works of poet Emily Dickinson, with a purpose to understand how the surrounding world around her had an impact on the work she created. Even though she is one of the most well-known poets, Dickinson wasn’t labeled as queer for a very long time. She sent Susan Gilbert Huntington-Dickinson more than 300 letters throughout their lifelong companionship. Some recurring themes and topics in her poems also give insight to this research, for example: The concept of death and the afterlife, Some of her most well-known poemsm Reclusive” lifestyle, FamilySocial and cultural norms of 19th century New England. Her work has led me to see and understand the past–her present–in a perspective I never had the chance to before.
