Description

Founded in 1929, the Office of Greek Life at Montclair State University fosters leadership, academic support, career exploration, and community service. All while, helping students build lifelong friendships and valuable skills. Despite the positive impact of Greek Life, its presence on campus is not as widely recognized as the many contributions it makes. Greek Life also faces many misconceptions and stereotypes about how they operate. To combat this, we plan to raise and facilitate an open conversation to fight the negative stereotypes associated with Greek Life. We conducted a survey and interviews with key personnel to raise awareness and understanding on the mission and positive impact of Greek Life at Montclair State University. The information collected will be used in our campaign, which will involve social media engagement and events to promote an understanding of Greek Life’s unique and inclusive community. The study employs a campus-wide survey to assess perceptions of Greek Life, followed by a targeted social media push and on-campus promotional events to achieve our goals. We also plan to establish a common understanding of Greek Life through a video series that can be used across platforms highlighting the unique and inclusive community that the Office provides. A key message for our campaign is to bring to light how Greek organizations give back through their philanthropic efforts, which benefit the greater Montclair community.
