Description

Childhood sexual assault (CSA) and sexual violence are growing concerns that lead to mental health issues. Within the South Asian community, culture and religion have prevented individuals from seeking help, due to the stigmatization surrounding sexual violence and overall mental health. This proposed study aims to examine the implications of CSA on sexual dysfunction and rising mental health issues amidst South Asian adults. This study aims to recruit 100 adults that identify as South Asian or are of South Asian descent, who are either fluent in English or accompanied by a translator during the time of their participation. Recruitment methods that will be employed include word of mouth, social media outreach, and community participatory approach. Regression analysis should be conducted to analyze these findings. It is anticipated that there will be a positively strong correlation between CSA and psychiatric issues. Furthermore, it is anticipated that there will be a relationship between CSA and adult sexual dysfunction. By conducting this study in the South Asian population, it will provide valuable information that may be utilized in ensuring culturally sensitive interventions and allow the experiences of this underrepresented community to be documented in research.
