Abstract

The nature of mitochondrial DNA replication during the synchronous cell cycle in the yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been investigated by examining the rate of labeled DNA precursor incorporation into specific segments of the mitochondrial genome at defined points during synchronous growth. The movement of label uptake from one area of the DNA to another at different times during the synchronous cell cycle indicates mitochondrial DNA replication to be a synchronous process during this time with most or all molecules at the same point in replication at any given time during the cell cycle.
