The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSND) was established in 1969, as the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology. The Department’s name was later changed to its present one to reflect the broader scope of the fields of study contained within it. Prior to 1969, the undergraduate and graduate programs in speech-language pathology and audiology were part of the Speech and Theatre Department, with courses of study extending at least as far back as the 1950s.

From that time to the present, the Department has developed and offered programs that reflect growth, specialization and commitment to helping professionals and individuals with speech, language and hearing disorders. The Department’s programs are designed to provide basic and advanced professional preparation, with a strong commitment to theoretical and research foundations of clinical intervention. he Department offers a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology (MA) and a clinical doctoral degree in Audiology (AuD).
