Abstract

The motivation for this book, Research Handbook on Information Systems and Society, is to provide coverage through the role of Information Systems and Society (ISS) in modern society, trending topics, and theories on ISS with respect to the environment, urban planning, governance, and so on. The book is organized into 26 chapters, including the roles of information systems that use contemporary techniques in the information society. A brief description of each chapter is given in this introduction. The book highlights the impacts of ISS to pinpoint and address potential negative societal impacts such as ethical issues, privacy concerns, inequality, criminal justice, social changes, cyberbullying, fake news, hate speech, and so on. In addition, it provides application domains of ISS such as healthcare, education, workplace dynamics, disaster management, transportation, tourism, entertainment, sports, retail, advertising, and supply chain, among others. The book develops potential futuristic solutions that can be impactful for forthcoming public policy, smart agriculture, next-generation military, and sustainability across globalization for an accountable and ethical usage of ISS research.
