Description
We have all heard stories about the great and powerful Amazon Warriors, a tribe of women skilled in warfare and lived in a man-less society. Their stories range from being featured in Homer’s Iliad to their possible involvement with Alexander the Great. Word of their military prowess was spread all across the world, in a time where much of historical documentation was mixed with historical fiction. Because of this, many have debated whether or not they were ever even real and for a long time it remained a popular opinion that these women were merely mythological characters as there was no evidence of an actual civilization resembling the one we hear of in these tales. Nonetheless, as the saying goes, “where there’s smoke, there’s fire.” Mythology is often rooted in reality, and embellishes on what already exists. So putting together pieces of historical fact set aside from the fiction, and trying to understand how much of the story of these Amazon warriors, if any, is true is an interesting topic that has only just started to uncover itself. In the ever expanding field of archeology, new evidence has been found near Russia of Scythian women that were given warrior burials and may just be the missing piece to our stories. Only recently have we begun making headway on the true story of these women and their lives. So I believe a research project on this will be beneficial in adding thought to an old subject that is making new strides. In my presentation I will discuss this fascinating topic and will demonstrate that this old subject is making new strides.
