Description
The Mediterranean Sea was a location of great maritime activity with ancient sailors taking advantage of transportation and trading opportunities that would allow them to sell and trade throughout multiple locations. During the 5th century BCE, ancient Greece ships and trade owners had control of about 16% of the world's trading. With this discovery of trading, ancient Greece was able to transform simple exchanges to large scale trading. The most common ship used was their cargo ship, used for transporting and carrying items like wine, wheat, olive oils, perfumes, glass vases and cups, jewelry, etc. Unlike warships that required men to row, these cargo ships used the technology of the sail to move. This research would take a look into the different kinds of trading vessels that were used during the Archaic and Classical periods of Ancient Greece.
