Description

The importance of farming to the United States economy cannot be underestimated. It contributes over 220 billion dollars to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employs 2.6 million people. while fueling a food and beverage industry (that includes manufacturing, sales, and services) totaling 1,7 trillion $ and employing over 22 million people. Through this poster, we present the significance of farming as a fundamental aspect of human existence and emphasize the importance of ethical farming practices in the United States. We then demonstrate how Virtual Reality (VR) technology can be employed to visualize various farming techniques. VR refers to the use of computer tools for simulating a 3-dimensional visualization environment that one can also interact with). We intend to showcase three distinct techniques - Rural, Urban, and Native also known as R.U.N. The VR environment, developed using Meta's Oculus goggles, will highlight various aspects such as soil types, water intake, and growth patterns associated with each farming technique, and how the environmental conditions impact crop outcomes. By leveraging VR technology, the project aims to provide an immersive experience that allows users to observe and understand the impact of rainfall on different types of farms, both positively and negatively. The overarching goal is to promote a deeper appreciation for diverse farming practices and encourage ethical considerations in modern agriculture.
