Abstract
The following discussion took place in November 1999, in a first-grade classroom at Edgemont School in Montclair, New Jersey. It was led by David Kennedy, a professor at Montclair State University, and Matthew Schertz, a doctoral student at lAPC, and transcribed by Andrew Kenny and Henry Minarick, who are Masters of Education students at Montclair State University.
