Description
At a time when the disproportionate effects of COVID-19, policing, and disenfranchisement of communities of color have been laid bare, we will examine the dynamic interplay of race, protest, music, healing, religion, and post-colonial theory. Dr. Micheal Viega (John J. Cali School of Music, Music Therapy) and Dr. Kate E. Temoney (College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Religion) invite you to join us for an interview with Dr. Hakeem Leonard. He is a musician, Associate Professor of Music Therapy, and Assistant Provost for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. He teaches with a lifespan developmental approach rooted in attunement and regulation and values critical reflexivity as a way of being and becoming. His scholarly pursuits lie in race and culture, equity, hip-hop/rap, art-based inquiry, pain management, and health and wellness. Is God Funky or What? is a one-hour web series inspired by the 2019 book by Dr. Theodore W. Burgh: Is God Funky or What? Black Biblical Culture and Contemporary Popular Music. Missed the prior installments? View them here: Part 1 with guest Dr. Theodore W. Burgh and Part 2: with guest Ms. Tori Blackman. Questions? Contact Dr. Kate E. Temoney.
