Description
"Greek colonists founded the colony of Metapontum in the south of mainland Italy between 700 BCE and 690 BCE. Metapontum flourished as a port city in the Magna Grecia for almost five centuries before the city fell to Hannibal and his forces in 207 BCE. Reoccuring excavations of Metapontum and the surrounding area started in the 1960s. Since then there have been numerous excavations and archeological projects ongoing in Metapontum uncovering the buildings remaining.
I looked at this city before in another class, but I did not get to look in depth at the ruins. I intend on looking at the Temple of Hera in particular. I want to know if there was a reason as to why the Temple of Hera was abandoned prior to the other buildings in the city. There are different theories as to why the southern part of the city was abandoned including floods."
