Description
Purpose: The purpose of this research is to investigate barriers and facilitators influencing the implementation of the latest concussion standards and guidelines within the field of athletic training. Background: The current concussion consensus statement was updated at the 6th International Conference on Concussion in Sport, in Amsterdam of October 2022, and revised the present concussion detection tools. Despite this revision, there may be a delay in the implementation process. The theory of reasoned action can explain the behaviors and intentions related to the delay in implementing the latest concussion protocols within the secondary school setting. Methods: The research instrument was developed using Qualtrics survey platform and consists of 23 questions total. A pilot study was completed with 3 subjects to establish content validity and face validity. Qualtrics survey link will be emailed to randomly selected currently practicing secondary school athletic trainers in District 1 or District 2 of National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) and distributed through email from NATA to a maximum of 1000 participants meeting the necessary criteria, with total participant enrollment goal of 100-200 participants. The survey will be initially sent out on March 1st, followed by two reminders on March 15th and April 5th. Results: The outcomes from surveyors will be collected and analyzed for descriptive statistics after the survey window closes on April 12th. Conclusion: This research study may provide benefits to the field of athletic training by identifying the factors affecting the acceptance and implementation of the current concussion protocols in the secondary school setting.
