Description

The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the growth of online grocery shopping, prompting consumers to explore alternative avenues such as Amazon and Walmart. Understanding the pricing dynamics in this market is crucial for both consumers and businesses. This research project analyzes and compares price differences in online grocery shopping between Amazon and Walmart throughout 2020. Transactional data including session ID, machine ID, product details, and total price were scrutinized to identify additional factors contributing to the final cost. Using Microsoft Excel's pivot table functionality, discrepancies in total basket prices compared to the sum of individual product prices were examined, revealing factors like shipping charges, taxes, discounts, and tips. The study provides insights into pricing strategies and the distribution of these factors between Amazon and Walmart, highlighting significant differences. Despite rigorous data processing, limitations include the absence of qualitative analysis. Nonetheless, these findings offer a foundation for informed consumer decisions amidst the surge in online grocery shopping during the pandemic.
