Ann Margaret Sharp (1942-2010) was a Professor of Educational Foundations at Montclair State University from 1973 until her retirement in 2009. In 1974, with Matthew Lipman, she co-founded the Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children (IAPC) and served as its associate director through 2006. As director of philosophy for children graduate studies at Montclair State University from 1981 to 2000, she mentored many masters and doctoral students. She also served as co-director of the Ph.D. program in philosophy, concentration in philosophy for children at the Ibero-Americana University in Mexico City from l994 to 1996 and as president of the International Council for Philosophical Inquiry with Children from 1992 to 1993. Sharp was a visiting scholar and philosophy for children workshop director in several countries. She authored several curricular philosophical novels for children and adolescents and co-authored the instructional manuals of the IAPC P-12 philosophy curriculum. She published widely on philosophy of education and philosophy for children. Some of her writing is collected in the critical anthology In Community with Ann Margaret Sharp: Childhood, Philosophy and Education (Routledge 2018).
